As a passionate advocate for both local culture and wildlife conservation, I am thrilled to share an upcoming event that perfectly marries these interests—the second annual Seafood Boil at Wekiva Island, benefiting the Central Florida Zoo.
A Delicious Cause: Seafood Boil Central Florida Zoo
On October 19, Wekiva Island will host its beloved Seafood Boil event from 3 PM to 7 PM. This isn’t just any culinary gathering; it’s a flavorful fundraiser designed to support the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens. By joining us, you’ll not only indulge in a sumptuous seafood feast but also contribute to an important cause.
What’s on the Menu?
Prepare to dive into a mouthwatering low country seafood boil featuring a pound of jumbo shrimp, steamed clams, savory sausage, potatoes, and corn. Each ticket also includes three pours of finely crafted beers from 3 Daughters Brewing, ensuring a refreshing complement to your meal.
Meet and Greet with Animal Ambassadors
From 3 PM to 5 PM, the Zoo’s animal ambassadors will be on site. This is your chance to get up close and personal with some of the Zoo’s most charming residents, enhancing your understanding and appreciation of these wonderful creatures.
A Bid for Conservation: Silent Auction
In addition to enjoying great food and company, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction. With 100% of the auction proceeds going to the Zoo, your bids not only stand a chance to win you some fantastic items but also help fund conservation and educational efforts.
Why We Support the Central Florida Zoo
Wekiva Island has a longstanding partnership with the Central Florida Zoo, specifically sponsoring the North American river otter habitat. As Carrie Vanderhoef, the Wekiva Island manager and Zoo board member, puts it, “Their mission of conservation is aligned with our own mission of sustainability and education. With this money, they’ll be able to do even more for the animals and the community.”
